12 March 2018

Well Hello you starry skied Monday morning with your low 50's F self.  And hearing the tire sounds on the 10 as the trucks go by headed to ?????.
Fun of internet is following the tracking of an item ordered and it's journey from origin to me.  Ventura Ca to Bakersfield Ca to Kingmen, Az as of yesterday at 4:40PM. Due here the 15th if all goes right with Fed Ex.

The tires ordered with Walmart? Had the store order them so not in the loop but due in today if all good. No matter. No Hurry.

Other things done in the last week of my life. A trip to Loggerhead for a beer or two and visit with the working people there.

Did rack the wine that's brewing into a glass jar and run a gravity on it. Started at 1.09 and down to 1.01 and it's still bubbling about every minute last check. This cool front has the yeast working very slowly, Again.

Then a few hours helping a friend out with his boat trailer with some welding. But being as I had just returned from the eye doc with eyes that don't focus yet, he did the welding as I just advised.

Help my neighbor unload her new Honda lawnmower and then looked at the sticking barn door. Which I need to go shim for her today perhaps.

Other than that, as couple afternoons at Stricklands for a couple glasses of wine and that was it for most the week.

Now, to see what this week is gonna bring out way with it's Winds of Fate. ;-)

05 March 2018

Did have two fine days on Suzy the Bandit.
Pondering on the great afternoon with Suzy and a bit over 200 miles tacked on to the ometer. Towns involved were Hathaway, Kinder, Oberlin, Oakdale, Glenmora. Then 113 West to Pitkin , Fork Polk. Gas up at the 10/171 junction. Then South to Deridder, Longville, Moss Bluff. The 3059 River road to 383 and South to Iowa and 90 to Welch. A stop at Hot To Trot for Conversation and a couple beers. The home.
Still working on getting to that 100K ometer reading on Bandit.

Then yesterday, deciding on the Vette or Bandit again and Bandit got the duty. Great afternoon with 170 more miles tacked on to the Bandit. Passed though the cities of , uhhhh. Creole was the 1st city I hit due to the back roads I was using. Some very expensive gas there but was not sure I could make Cameron and the station I generally use was closed today. Oh well, now I know that. But on to Cameron and the ferry which gave me a 5 dollar bill and 14 one dollar bills as change for my 20. LOL.
Then Bandit I headed to Holly Beach then turn up toward Hackberry and Sulfur.
Stay away from I-10 East bound as they are working on the interstate and one lane open from the start of Westlake to almost out of Lake Charles. I'll not be using that road again for awhile I promise.
Then to Welch on I-10 to to 90 and home. great ride and I do love Suzy. And love that 45 miles per gallon I've been getting.

Today was yard cutting with the Dixon and weedeating. All done before 11A so that's good.

Got the part in for the KLR so we put that back together, tested and all works. Instrument panel back totally stock now. Even took a little ride about Jennings on it and filled up with gas.

While at the store, a Powerball ticket.  May as well donate. Don't think I've spent the 100 bucks I won 3 or 4 yrs ago on  tickets. So still ahead of the game.

Till the next!

28 February 2018

Pretty day so the Vette got the call for some roaming.  One stop at Rockefeller Reserve for a few pics and a break.  About 170 miles total run. The map below is where I ventured this afternoon.

Brought two cameras with me, my trusty old Canon G16 and the Canon XS50HS  high zoom. The G16 was used the most as many photos I was moving down the road.
And we were getting down the road checking out the sights and very little traffic.

Did cross several draw bridges but didn't stop at any of those.

The Break was at the reserve that I  use to fish out of years ago. Still has the old LA sign of not having to have a fish licence if 60 yrs old. That has change several years ago. You gotta have one.

A few more pictures . This is headed out towards the gulf.

An a couple of the place in general

Then was watching this guy get line up to load his boat. If I even get another boat, it will be a simple one. But not in the plans.

Then back on the road towards the islands.  And finally Gueydan and 14 to 26 to home.

22 February 2018

Hello Thursday morn! Wonder what you are going to bring about today? Hope you keep most all of that rain to the North for sure.
Did get my Canon G16 out of the tankbag this morning to do something with pictures in it. Decide to play with it in the early morning darkness also.
First was saying hello to my Toys.

Then, outside to play with settings for the street and poor old flag I do need to replace.

Then processing the photos I took last week on a back road run to Ole River Road  on the Calcasieu River with the KLR and doing as much gravel as could find.
Actually , this pic was shot with the camera upside down and with the left hand. So all is really reversed when flippin the picture.

Passing many fields where the crawfish season is in full bloom.

Ending the day with a beer at Loggerheads and mostly sealed roads back to town.
That's about it to now. Till the next!

19 February 2018

The satisfied look of a job done.  The A/C belt/tensioner/pulley project.

Good reason that Chevy and most part housed don't list the pulley seperate for for tensioner assem on vehicles is that it's pretty near the same time to change out the whole unit rather than just the pulley. And, when you do just change out the pulleys and find you still have a problem and have to go back and change the tensioner assembly , you do understand their logic.
But, a good learning experience for this 74 yr old head.
And the project is done and road tested so it's all good.

Other than that, cut grass, tilled a couple planting plots for Da Wifey.
Then after all was done yesterday, washed the truck, vette and KLR.

17 February 2018

At 3AM and soon to return to bed I'm sure.  Thinking about yesterday's activities, some good, some okay, none terrible.

Luce and I got our mile in this morning and loving this weather for walking. Then it was KLR time to go get idler wheel for Vette and to Mark's Automotive to look at his and son's  projects. Quite a bit of custom work going on.
Then to Fire Station for Coffee and Conversation, a trip on Main Street and saw they were pouring more concrete for side walk repair. Then , home.

Did get the upper idler pulley and belt on the a/c for the Vette. But, started making at knocking sound so shut the A/C off and went to see Mark West for guidance.  1st time I've run into that problem and he spotted it fast as the tensioner was bad. So, back to Auto Zone to get one and to the house and in the garage. To be changed probably this Saturday or Sunday morn.

A bit of weed eating and repairing the head unit of the weed eater to get the job finished. Work on the ditch on the side of the house to even out the sides. Enuff physical labor for the day. ;-)

KLR and I off for a ride about at mid afternoon. Mostly gravel roads headed Westerly between US 90 and LA 102. Ending up on Old River Road and to Loggerheads for a beer. Then back to town with about 40 % gravel and different roads. I'll get the GPS off the bike and load the track file on the computer to see just where all I was.

A Stop at a local eat place for a super great Hamburger Steak and glass of wine. Had to get a go box as it was that big.

Walking Luce in the front and an ATT salesman shows up and we talk about Charter vs ATT prices and services so Wife and I decide to give it a try.

So that ended a Great Day of another day in the life.  On to this day , after I wake up again later. ;-)

15 February 2018

Been lazy but a summary from the past month is in order.

Did stay as warm as possible due to all this cold air coming down.  Had the gas heater going with the ceiling fan to help out the heat pump. Much cheaper set up and did well.

Did finish some dewberry wine and bottled it. So the freezer is clear of all but some cherries I think.

Did get to change spark plugs and wires on the Vette without it taking too much skin off my hands. And had to take it for some test rides.

And yesterday it got to 70F and I attempted to get some cool air but not happening. So, got back home , opened the hood with it still running and saw the Air Conditioning Pump was not turning and no belt on it. Shut the motor down and got a flash light and the belt is neaux Meaux.  So , a later project as still getting over too much wine last night. Sigh! Well , two Ginneses and two wines. So, not very motivated to do much at present. ;-)

Lets see what else.  Oh did a remake on a shot I took of the wife heading up town on the other side of the street. I spied her but she didn't spy me.  ha ha ha

Then , Yesterday, a little foggy so wanted to get some fog pics with the Vette involved but by the time I got to the graveyard, a little fog but not what I was hopping for.

Of course Da Luce is photo bombing.

My usual breakfast in the mornings is oatmeal with a touch of honey or whole wheat and almond/coconut milk pancakes.

And a fine supper of pnut butter and apples
And that about catches me up cept for attempting to get lower rates on insurance for truck and car and medicare supplement.

Now , to get motivated. Sigh.
