12 September 2023

So, let us continue with a recap of the month of August since July was so fun to be alive in. ;-)

Hi ya 1st day of August! And tis gonna be another hot one for sure.
Did get a surprise yesterday running though a rain shower south of Elton to a little past Hathaway. Even that the wipers on at pretty fast for awhile. But, all gone before we got to Jennings and none followed us home. Sigh!
Work still going on about the city and what's it like at the old Heywood building.

August 4th
Was Hello bright moon overhead and Hello Jupiter in the Eastern sky when venturing outside to get my glasses out of Da Bride;'s Ride.
Did trip to Loggerheads as she mentioned it when we were leaving the house. Very not crowed with one other guy inside and saw 3 workers. But by the time we finished our glass of wine , about 4 more appeared.
Coming back from Loggerheads, took one of the wife's favorite roads with trees covering the road.

HiYa 1AM on this still warm Friday. The sound of that lonesome whistle from a passing train makes me smile. That old song " Hear that lonesome whistle blow " comes to mind.
A ride about yesterday afternoon and did see a few fields being flooded already for the 2nd crops. A few being Cut, And some hay bailing. And still a lot of rice to harvest. Love the look of those golden fields.
And the empty crawfish ponds that the birds are loving lots.

Sunday, Hello! August 4th. The moon and Jupiter and a few stars showing through the city light pollution this morning as I went the check the Wagon, Garage and Shop. All good!
And, do have a plan this afternoon. Loggerheads and Myra the Hippie Chick at 3PM. And Getting Da Dee out of her home for a bit to enjoy. Still limited to the amount of time she can stand sitting since her little operation.
Did see a few farmers cutting rice yesterday but that's an everyday thing with the high temps helping the rice mature. And already several putting water back in some fields for that 2nd crop,
So, let's see how the Winds gonna treat us this fine day to be alive. Wishing all a Great Set.
Wuz stareing at this picture and thinking " Bought it in the Spring of 1969 " We've come a long way in 54 years.

Great afternoon with Da Bride at Loggerheads and listening to Myra the Hippie Chick sing her ;'60's '70's songs. Her , one tall glass of wine. Me , 2 tall glasses of wine then back home.
Her, not feeling great and dizzy after too much wine for her.
Me, just grand an groovy.
And on the 6th day.
Wow! The sweat is on! But, one washed and wiped down Wagon. Groceries from Lyon's this morning all put away and rearranged. One changed shirt. LOL.
Wow! Filled up the Wagon at Murphy's this morning and $3.26 per gallon regular. April I had paid 3.25 per gallon. So a new high this year for me.
So, in the chill mode with Dr in LC town appointment tomorrow afternoon so should behave till then 😉
And Da Bride just came in the door from Walmart plus where ever else she ventured to. I yell , " What's Happing Booboo and no answer. Hmmm reckon not in the talking mood. LOL !
Totally normal. I just smile.
So,, what are the winds gonna blow up next ?

well, visit to LC medical went great and had fun cutting up with nurses. Nurse says all good . All good and next visit in 6 months. Wow! Next Medical doc visit here in town in two weeks. But need to go give up some blood and stuff for testing several days before. .
Then home the long way on LA 14 out of Lake Charles. Boss lady home and finished with what she wanted to do in my room so some stuff back on place, some stuff gone.

Wow! Hello 1:27A on the 10th day of August.
Picture came up on screen this morning had me in memory lane for sure. Summer of 1982 when My Cuz and I went to Colorado on our bikes. My 1st long bike trip.

Hard to believe this was over 40 years ago. Wow!

Oh I did start a batch of Fig Wine this morning. On this 10 day of August. Pert near 3 gallons mix of figs, water and 6 lbs of sugar. Added the yeast and about 4 hours later. Wow! The yeast is big time busy!

And Aug 11 > A great afternoon for sure! Me and Da Bride a ride about and a stop at Chunkie's in Basile for a treat. Love that place and so many memories.
A trip to the LA bar to meet and greet with old friends was so great. Then a stop at T Bob's and more old friends two wines down and back to the home and huggin' an da few kisses from Da Bride that is bed and near fully asleep till I woke her ha ha ha .
Really do love my life

Things happing about the town in pictures on this August day.

Twas Hello 4AM this morning. Aug 13th. Coffee and a trip outside to see the sky's offerings. Lotsa stars but sure remember being able to see the milkyway when was a kid and no lights all over the place.
Wine bubbling slowing down to about a set every few seconds now. May transfer to a glass carboy today.
A check in the back yard and YES forgot some stuff I put on the line yesterday at noon still there. Hmmmmmm. Oh well, not important for sure, just mainly towels for the garage and a pair of jeans and a shirt.

Looking at the clothes and thinking Hmmmmmmmm.

The newest batch of fig wine getting er done. ;-)

And my newest Marine Corps flag. I thought I had ordered way smaller than this. H......

Oh well, did get da wife's car washed and wiped down yesterday afternoon. Had to grin at how fast the water was evaporating on the carport drive where I washed her ride.
And Monday arriving in a few minutes, did go outside to get info from yesterday's fillup on Da Wagon. Gas was at 3.24 per gallon. Been using the wife's ride more as it ranges in the upper 20's mpg and my Traverse in the 20 mpg range. With me driving her ride I get in the bottom 30's roaming about. But, I'm a slow poke. ha ha ha ha . Easy on the gas, easy on the brakes.
Well, officially into Monday the 14th day as I'm typing this. And, as usual , wait on the Winds to see what happenings today.
Fig wine still bubbling about a set ever 4 to 5 seconds so that's good , plus seeing settlement at the bottom. 😉
Love it when I get Da Bride driving and me with camera in hand. 😉

Aug 16th was a Pretty lazy day yesterday and our usual afternoon ride about brought us through Iota. Wuz headed out South bound on LA 91 happen to catch a view of the dome home out there. Asked the wife if she ever saw the place and not sure was the answer. LOL Now she has. Last picture is a Google Maps ariel view. A really different place for sure and can't even imagine the work to build it.

Well, check the Fig Wine process this morning and it was not bubbling no more. So, 1st bottling in the 1.5 liter bottles. Check on gravity shows 1.000 and this started at 1.100 so calculations say 14.2 ABV. Wow! Not running out of wine for sure. ;-0

Well,. think the plants in trouble and fixing to go to the trashcan and forget gardening for this year. Sigh. Even onions suffering. But Kumquat tree making a comeback from the freeze.
And new batch of Fig wine did pass the wife's taste test.
Won't be long before Da Bride and I go roaming the back roads. Not sure what direction yet. Think a chocolate milk shake in Basile at the place where she worked when I met her the second time called Chunkie's will do the job. 😉
All reactions:
Shelia White, Pam LeBlanc and 10 others

Aug 18 arrives.
When you have to fire up the lawnmower to cut about a 10 by 20 foot stretch of front yard where the sewer pipe runs and feeds the grass. But, a done deal at 2PM. Didn't even work enuff to get a sweat going with me walking behind the mower.
Checked Sister in Law yard and it don't need any cutting yet. As the rest of my yard. Hmmmmmm.
My lawnmowers at rest again. And the big one on vacation it seems. LOL

Hello the 22nd day of August! Looking like this afternoon gonna be in the High 90's. Oh well, Can't change it so live with it.
Only plans this day is fix my phone I hope as I tapped the wrong delete button and deleted everything. LOL! Did put the Dozen or so phone numbers back in. Now wait till later and use the wife's phone to call it. ;=) . Good thing I hardly ever use it.
So Winds, bring it on! Let's smile and do it.
A picture of my abandoned garden boxes that may or may not be there next year. 😉

And the used to be Jennings High School going down big time.

Hi ya 24th day of Hot August. And smoky yesterday with the fires to the North of us.
Did do some weed eating in the front yard yesterday at noonish. Didn't need to break out either lawnmower for sure. Did see 104 on the outside temperature gauge in the Traverse yesterday afternoon when leaving Jennings headed to Lake Arthur. But backed off to 100 by the time I got to Lake Arthur.
Playing with one of my G16 cameras and it was not doing right. Hmmmmm. Check settings and all good. Hmmmmmm. So this morning got both of them together and one faster than the other. Hmmmmmmm. Turned out to be the SD card was to small in memory. Changed to a faster SD card and all is good.
But, Put the G50 Canon back in it's normal place in one of the cup holders.
So, what's this day gonna bring? Ha ha ha ha. We'll be ready with a smile and good attitude for sure.
Oh , still smiling over this picture I found.

A little bit of a roam about the city this morning and not a lot going on. To a friends home to deliver wine and figs and receive grapes for future wine. Yes.
A it's still a bit smokey due to the fire near Singer and that dang NE wind.

And concrete work happening on Main Street Project.

On this 25th day. A quick run to Lyons this morning started off my 2nd get up. A little sample bottle of fig wine for my fav cashier. To see her eye's light up is something. 😉 Course when I have about 4 two lbs bags of sugar in my basket , she do know what that's for.
Then a roam about the graveyard to check on my peeps and too many friends there.
Then passing by the Old High School and getting to be less and less everyday.
A pass by the Heywood and Manual projects and up mainstreet and the workers just getting started there.
Next > clean the winddows on Da Wagon and then? We'll wait on the Winds for sure.
Wishing all my friends Great Winds this fine day to be alive

And two gallon bags of grapes in the 3 gallon plastic bucket since this morning to warm up. Perhaps more work on them tomorrow as, still fairly cold at present.
Then the work of smashing them and getting the seeds out of the mix.
Slowly gonna end up as Grape Wine. Tadaa. But much work before that takes place.
2 hours with the wife at the docs office to take care of a bladder problem plus. A cream and exercise for present and see how that goes. That gal do not like hard exercise or pain. We'll see how that goes then the next step.
Me, Da hip better this afternoon but a ways to go yet. Kinda back where it was a month ago as in not as bad 2 months ago when I wrecked it picking up a lawnmower.
Let me say, that this getting old SUCKS. But, I'm not gonna sit down and just get older, I'm gonna live or die trying.
And on Aug 30
Wine set up done! 4.5 lbs of sugar put the SG at 1.110. Wow! Yeast and yeast entergiser added and now the period of waiting for the yeast to come alive and start eating the sugar. 😉 '
Load of clothing washed and Da Bride even hung them on the line for me while I was messing with the wine.
And, the outside of Da Wagon washed and wiped down. Next , the interior.
But needing to be careful as I seem to be working up a bit of a sweat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha ha ha Really, rather sweat than shiver for sure.

Hi Ya last day of August! And still 80F under the carport. AT 12:45A. Hmmmmmm.
And a super bright moon above just made me have to go get the Canon SX50 camera out of the Traverse and get a picture of it. Yes I did. 😉.

And dats it for August. Onwards into September.

Wow/! Where has the time gone? Already the 12th day of September.  Have not been on my bog in over a month.  Think, in the future, I'll just post most daily stuff here instead of Face book and just give them this address if they want to follow.

Well, did do a batch of Watermellon wine in late July.  Turned out very good so the people say.  Me? My screwed up taste buds from a minor brain seizure years back have everything tasting sweet, balance sucks, left side of face numb.  LOL.
So with the rest of July 12th to write about.

Took the Bride out for our afternoon ride that ended up at the Lacassine Pool . No Alligators present, one snake in the road and it quickly got off as I approached. LOL Like I was gonna run over it. NOT! Lots of birds roaming around and some babies at that
Then back home and getting past her bed time for sure at 5:30PM. Yes 5:30 pm!!!!!!!!!! LOL
So , Bubba's in town out of wine, Didn't feel like driving further. So, Guess whom has all kinda wine at his house? LOL We getting rid of what's been sitting on the desk.
And, Facebook and You Tube and soon Netflix.

July 13
Well back from Loggerheads and so fun with my friends there. 6 little bottles of wine put out by me for tasting and okayed. I kinda thought it was a bad batch but after a dozen tasters said OK. Guess I'll keep the rest and not throw it away.
Guess the next batch will be fig wine then. 😉
With 9 gallons of them in the freezer. Sheese.
So on with this night and all the wine I wanted today with two big glasses at Loggerheads.
So, guess it's gonna be net flix next.

Sure not running out of wine in the shop. ha ha ha ha.
July 15th
Did get Dee's yard cut yesterday and so great to see her getting around so much better after her little operation a week ago.
And a visit from Dave Leger yesterday wanting to inform me about the Class of 63 get together coming up.
Wow '63. My sister graduated that year. Our pictures together in the 10 grade yearbook from '61. I did the 9th grade 2 yrs and the 10th 2 yrs before quitting school . Last 2 years was morning putting up with high school and afternoons at Trade School learning Auto Mechanics which served me well the rest of my working days. Worked with a pipeline company for a few months the into the Marine Corps for 4 years and 2 months.
Did a High School equivalency test in '63 and scored high enough for paperwork to be sent and mom bringing it to JHS for me to get a JHS high school diploma in '63. I had just got back from my first cruise on the USS Los Angeles Heavy Cruiser as a member of the Marine Detachment. What a trip and the sites I saw. All over the South Pacific, even Hong Kong and Korea.
The rest of my USMC time was around Long Beach, Ca, Camp Pendelton and back overseas till I got out in March of '66.
And so far, still alive and pretty well at 80 yrs old since March 29. LOL the March 29 birthday date has another story. LOL.

Lots of rice in the harvest mode and some farmers have the equipment ready.

The more serious side of life is with Da Bride's health and state of being. Memory worst by the day, Balance worst by the day. So, he doc here in town is sending her to a specialist in Lafayette. And I do not like Lafayette as have not been there in over 10 years. No need!
A map of where I need to take her.
And the trip did suck as several road construction projects had me running in circles. LOL but finally succeeded.

Did turn 114K miles on the '16 Traverse I call Da Wagon Been a great vehicle as I really didn't know if I was gonna like it when getting rid of my 03 Truck and Vette in Feb of '21. But loving it. So Far.

July 19 bought > Chill time till Loggerheads time. DA Bride says she wants a wine there. Yes, she twisted my arm. Ha ha ha ha .
One Dee's yard cut , lawnmower cleaned and put up. Trailer put away.

The Wagon with trailer and lawnmower. Fixing to head to Dee's for grass cutting.

July 20 and work still going on with the Heywood building. Gonna be neat. Plus several other projects happening in Jennings for sure.

Saturday! And 22 days into July! Been a very warm month and we still have August to go or more. Oh well, tis what it tis. Maw Earth in a warming cycle and our industry helping a bit. And don't even believe Maw Earth cares about us.
Fun yesterday evening at LA Bar meeting the usual Friday friends. Catching up on what's happening with my old and new friends there. Talking about the coming rice production and very soon, the combines and rice hauling equipment will be very busy. To peeps like me that love to roam the countryside, be aware and give those farm people right aways and room. I hope to get many pictures to share.
New hose was installed yesterday on my air hose reel in the garage as the old hose just had a hole pop up the other day. LOL Worked up a sweat just doing that.
Also a little ride about with Da Bride covering the area towards Evangeline to Iota and back around by Garber Sweet potato place ( or as many remember " The Four Corners Dance Hall " . No rice being cut but gonna soon.
Picture of the hose reel I have hanging in the garage.

Destruction of the Old High School in major progress. Went to school there for 7 years. Oh well. That was over 60 years ago. LOL!

Hello 26th Day of July! And yes, the throbing nerve that got damaged in my right leg has quit bugging me for attention. Now for the little wound to heal. Alcohol rub down and neosporin already applied this morning when getting up at 04:10.
So, wonder what the winds gonna bring out way this day? We'll just smile and wait.
A picture of my favorite kind of road. Country road, Crops and animals or what ever in the fields, cruise control set on about 45 to 50 mph, no traffic. Still miss my motorcycle days though.

And on the 26th day of July a trip about town and to the bayou to see how it looks. A green scum on it this day for sure.

Another place in town being redone is the old Manual building at the corner of S Main and W Division. What's it gonna be? Hmmmmmm.

And with the rice cutting happening, the birds are having fun.

And on July 31st.
Sad to say, one of our neighbors died today. Don't know the family that well even though they live across the street for many years. Just not much of a visitor here. But, life goes one.
Did weed eat the rest of the yard and used both mowers to cut the grass. Watered the plants that look like they be on their death bed. ha ha ha ha
Then Da wife off with Sis and her step daughter to go visit the other sister.
Then our afternoon roam about went this way.

Chunkie's in Basile , La. Where I first asked my wife for a date in 1966 about 2 or 3 months after serving with her for a friend's wedding. And still a stop today for a Milk shake.

And that ends posts for July. Really do love my life sometimes not my body but that's just a thing. ;-)
Next comes August.

12 July 2023

 Hello July 12th!

been a great start to July for sure.  I'm still alive and kicking.  ha ha ha ha.

Been roaming about the countryside looking at the beautiful rice fields getting that " Ready to Harvest " look. Won't be long before seeing combines and tractors working the fields.

And started a batch of Watermelon wine. Kinda rushed it and not too very good so this morning, back in the car boy it went with 2 lbs of sugar and a pack of yeast. We'll see how that goes and if not good, Buy another watermelon and start from scratch. The way I learn, try things , if good    YA!  If not start over and make it good. ;-)

Been keeping an eye on sis in law Dee since her procedure a week ago to repair a rupture and she's getting better everyday but not able to do what she wants to do.  Did take her Ford Explorer out yesterday to get some run time on it.  Wow! So different than my Chevy Traverse. Think it's a 2012 or close to that. But, that instrumentation lay out is wow. I did figure out the cruise control and radio controls on the steering wheel but little else as was driving. ;-) I'd have to spend lots of time in the owners manual and YouTube to learn that thing. As I did my 2016 Traverse ( Da Wagon ). But alls good with the run about and checked the oil when getting back. Good color and full so no problem there. Still gonna be awhile before she's able to drive. A few weeks at least.

Dry and hot weather made the gardening go kaput and just not that interested in doing it any more. May do some vertical half barrels next year for grins. We'll see what happens down the road of life. ;)

06 July 2023

And 1/2 the year gone with the coming of July. Wow! So fast.

Not a lot new happened downtown. But still working on the new sidewalk on Main Street.

The part on Nezpique street being worked on at present.

Then there is the old Manual building on S. Main and Division they are cleaning and revamping it.  Not being removed , just redo job.

And the main thing lately was sis in law going into the hospital yesterday for a procedure to repair body parts.  LOL! Should be released today if all is well. Have 2 sisters, my daughter and me looking out for her. ;-)  Probably be headed that way soon. ;-)

So till the next.

17 June 2023

Been over a month since been to this blog and was gonna quit it. But a couple peeps don't do face book and like keeping up with what is happening in my world.  So, let us catch up for the last month.

Was hunting an old picture of the Heywood building in my Old Jennings file and found another that brought back memories. Do you remember it?

The pumping station at the bayou to supply water for the area rice farmers.

And the latest batch of wine I made from orange juice bought at Lyons. And , what's left of the Black berry wine on May 7th.

Did make a trip to New Orleans to bring Tysen Da Son home for a few days. Him and Da Bride catching up on things as been awhile since he was last home. Went and got him in the Traverse and a solo trip but brought him back with mom in place. Did a straight trip on 10 for the return as going on the 26,14, 90 route had some detours at New Iberia.

And the old stump has a sun flower. But not anymore as it died as flowers do so bent it over to the seeds from it could fall inside the stump.

Well, the little satsuma tree did not survive from the freeze. No sign if life at all. Did get 20 satsumas off it before the freeze.

So, in it's place, some other plants. Cantaloupes from seeds I saved a few weeks ago.

And the sunflowers in the front of the house. Really coming along.

My favorite place under the carport. Reading, napping, watching the birds and squirrels and listening to the sounds of the city.

Work going on between Plaquemine and Nezpique on the East side of Main. New sidewalks.

Newest batch of Blackberry wine. Now at about 10% BVA. Want to let it get to at least 12% before I kill the yeast. Taste test by Da Bride says OK!

And a restoration job going on with the old Manual store on S Main. Gonna be interesting to see the results. Also work going on at the old Heywood building.

So ends a summary of the last month and a half. Still babying the left hip but seems to be getting better. Only do a single Tylenol about twice a day. Sucks to get old and have old injuring coming back to haunt you. But, I still miss my motorcycle life for sure.

Me and my '2002 BMW R1150GS headed for the mountains. Loved that life for sure. Did rack up over 700K miles roaming our country.
