12 October 2015

So as the 12th day of October rolls around a few things to ponder on.
Buried a family member so glad that's passed. The get together after the fact was great to relieve the pain of the burial and is hope to have a reunion every year.
Totally screwed up a tire / tube assy process by doing it in a rush. So , took all apart and started from scratch. Totally cleaned rim and mounted tire on rim with one bead. Rest will be done this morning in the cool of the morning and on the table.
Did two trips to New Orleans this time as daughter had school things that needed to be done yesterday. Being on the road sure made me lonely for the road on my bikes instead of in the truck. This last trip , went out on I-10 with more traffic due to later hour > 10AM ish <  than when leaving at 7AM ish. Saw the West lane was doing construction and really backed up big time so coming back on US90 was for sure instead of just an idea. Saw two wrecks , one where a Sheriff car was traveling pretty fast with lights on went off the road and was upside down in the woods . About a dozen people already stopped and running to the car as I eased past so didn't stop . Then one in about the middle of Patterson with a car on it's side in the medium. Much EMS and LEO there.
Took LA14 at New Iberia on down to Lake Arthur , stopped for a couple beers at Delia's for old times sake then on the Legion as stopped for a beer there and then home. Also stopped in Kaplan for a Subway for a very late dinner.
Home and  watered the garden plots and chilled till 9P and in bed till 2:45.  Coffee, oatmeal, my room and my computer. That catches us up for the week.

05 October 2015

Been a good week, Been a not too good week. Kinda like Ying and Yang, the good and bad, the beauty and ugly. All needing each other to complete the whole.

One bad was , the KLR not wanting to start when stopping a few blocks from the home and having to go get it in the morning with my trailer just in case I could not find the problem.
The good, A loose connection finally coming apart was the culprit, Cleaning it up and a good firm connection solved a temp gauge problem I was having with it.

Another bad was the front going flat on me and dropping the bike and me in a curve on a little back road. Luckly able to call a friend to come and get me and the bike about 25 miles away being as I could find nothing wrong with the tire and it would not hold air when Pumping it up. Figured it was a split tube and not going to be patchable. Also scraping up and bruising the left knee.

Now , the main job , going on 5 days later, is letting it heal. And, the going is slow but much better than just two days ago. Still not comfortable with a blanket or sheet touching it.

Good thing is finding the flat problem being a pinched tube that I had to have done. Weird thing is that it developed a hole after at least 500 miles since putting the tire on. So now waiting on new tubes for it.

While waiting, recalled that I may have not had complete instructions on installing gold valve cartridge emulators awhile back so pulled the forks back off and apart and drilled the extra holes and put all back together with Dexron 2 ATF oil. We'll see if that smoothens out things.

Had to take apart and clean the valve on my my bike lift as it was sticking big time and pulled the circlip off. But, fixing and working now.

Other things is the wife's sister's husband died a few days back and arrangements are in the GO MODE to get him and the family to Jngs from Houston area. Funeral to be here at Mathew's and to be buried at the Durell graveyard. with the rest of the Fontenot family.

That about sums up the week.

28 September 2015

Another 2 weeks flown by in life and happenings.

KLR is still got a problem with the temp gauge reading erratic but know it's not running hot so not very concerned about it. Will dig further into it during the winter and non riding days.  Did put new Avon Gripster tire on rear so now have a matching set of tires on it.

Bandit has all the luggage put back on as I can carry more stuff and not have to use the truck for small items. Have a new rear tire for it that come in and will change it out in the near future. Gonna run the present as long as safe. Seems strange just changing out one front tire in the last two years when I used to change out near 2 sets a year. The halt to long distance travel did that one.

The Nitro boat's Keel Guard I got at such a good deal started coming apart. the plastic from the adhesive strip. Tried some weather strip glue , nada. Got some Marine RTV glue and that is holding so far after 3 trips to the water. All else on it doing great and finally decide to learn Lake Arthur, Had never fish just in the Lake, always the Mermentau above and below it. Been fun and lots of shallow running so picked up the trolling motor a bit. Even knock the transducer loose on the last trip.

Did a great poker run  with a side trip to a little sick guy in Kinder. Probably near 200 bikes showed in Kinder for the occasion not counting cars and trucks.  Did the whole run for a change  but checked out at the end when the auction was fixing to start.

Gardening is happening with tomatoes and cucumbers and water melon plants in the back yard. Wife has some things planted but not sure what.

Still getting morning walks in at the graveyard when up to it or weather agrees. Lost another old childhood friend this month from the old neighborhood. Had not had much contact with him in the past 40 years but that's normal after you leave the old hood and start a new life.

So , at 06:32 on this fine Monday, fixing to get dressed, get Da Luce up and go for a walk before the rains get here about noonish , so said.

14 September 2015

Catching up on the past week plus.  For sure cool out side this morning at 60F.  Had not seen that in awhile. Do plan on getting the boat in the water today

One fishing trip and not getting anything in the boat with a few short nibbles about it. But, learning some more Lake Arthur is the main thing.
Yesterday, racked the Fig wine over to the bubbler with a little action after it was done. Had been pretty quiet for the last few days in the fermenter.
Worked on two garden plots to transplant tomatoes and cucumbers this week some time.
Changed out the rear tire on the KLR with an Avon Gripster. Tough to seat that tire and a couple light weights to balance it. Still enjoy the heck out of riding that bike on the back roads. Which I did to the tune of about 100 miles a couple days ago after the tire / oil / filter change at 44.2 80 miles on the ole gal. And did way too much wine upon return to home. But, yesterday, did not leave the home front.
Decided again giving my laptop away and reenter a few things on it as had erased all on it. Kinda like re installing Win 10.
Wife's Brother in Law in Conroe not doing too good so she headed out that way yesterday to be with her sis.
And, hopefully, get the boat back out today with me and da Luce to learn some more of the lake.

09 September 2015

On mechanical was losing a screw on the KLR windshield a few days ago and replaced that yesterday morning. Took the bandit out for the morning ride and getting use to the luggage bags being on there again after 2 years of not.              The fig wine is slowing way down in yeast to sugar action but we'll wait another week before transferring to a jug for the finale setting.             Went out in the boat to Lake Arthur this morning solo and a few nibbles but no hook sets. Check out a few places I've not been before and still learning the north side of the lake at present. Went by my friend Bobby's place and parked at his dock but the house was still closed up so didn't knock. Went back to roaming the lake till I seen the big storm brewing to the south. Time to leave and was on my way from  Lakeside Cameron by 11A.           Stopped at the little church and got a bbq chicken dinner and that was it for the morning.           Worked on one garden plot and just tilled another with grass in it for the wife.   Was going to start on the other plot but found ants in it so put in some poision and with the storms brewing, put all up , came in and took a shower and chillin' for the rest of the day.

05 September 2015

Catching up!  Pear wine is in the Bubbler for the next month now. Not a lot of activity happening in the fermenter so changed to bottle.
Fermenter is busy with the starting process of Fig Wine now. Set it to draining yesterday afternoon so will finish get it ready for the yeast this morning.
Lost balance with the KLR and dropped it at the gate a few nights back bending the brake lever. So changed it out. Looks like damage to the right rear signal light but put it back in place and still works and is staying put so far. Need to do some more with it though.
Finally started learning Lake Arthur after years of fishing above and below it. Had a great 45 mins of fishing before running from rain showers. 5 bass pretty fast in just one pass in a cut. Stopped and talked to a buddy for a bit and ended up getting wet anyway running to the boat shed for cover.
Had started getting alarm for low oil level on the 90 Merc so checked it at the shed and it was low. Luck has it that a friend pulled in also about the same time and said he had some in his truck at the bridge. When the rain stopped , he went and got it for me. Saved a walk to the store from where I was at. I'll have some extra in the boat from now on.
Built a rack using 2" pcv and a 2 x 4 to store garden tools under the carport, Came out pretty neat.

Think I will put the luggage system back on Bandit. Thought about selling the luggage but would be a hassle with packaging , plus having a few scrapes from my crash a few years ago.

Watermelons plants starting to flower behind the shop from the seeds a friend gave me from Sugartown melon he bought. We'll see how that's gonna work out at this time of year. Also have some cucumber  and tomato plants happening. Gonna leave a couple in the hot house for grins.

Today, well, we'll see what the winds of fate blow our way. ;-)

22 August 2015

Pear wine in the making. Boiled the sliced pears for awhile to soften them up and used a mixer to cut them up finer, Drained all the juice though some loose cloth and let cool to room temp before adding chemicals to start the process. After about 26 hours added about 6 cups of sugar to 3 gallons of liquid bring the Spc Grav to 1.070. Sprinkle in a pack of wine yeast, stirred, and put the cover on tight.

Went to Station 2 to get 300 gal tote tank with trailer for future grave washing. Notice right trailer light not working so need to fix that soon.

The left on Suzy for Lake Arthur and a glass of wine, then to Carolyns for fun and it was fun. Back home and swap to the truck to go get some fried chicken and home to eat it. Checked on the wine and it was bubbling away.

Sat morning walk then to Auto Store for supplies to re do trailer wiring. Got home and pulled the right light off to clean up contact points but light still dim but working now. Redid ground in front of the trailer but no help there either. Was getting pretty sweaty so put all together , put trailer outside and will build a new wiring harness when the weather cools off in a month or 3.

Now, motocross to watch.
