31 December 2014

Christmas for 2014 has come and gone. Next is New  Years. Enjoyed our Christmas Dinner way more than I thought I would. Just the Daughter and her family , plus the GDaughter's New Special Guy , as she calls it.  Enjoyed meeting and talking with him. Russian Immigrant been in the US for 4.5 years and born in Uzbekistan if I remember right. Think he was amazed at my knowledge of that part of the world due to ride reports I'm fond of reading from that area.

Wife did me a tri pod for the camera, been wanting but never bought. I made it easy for me with a card and 50 dollar bill for her. A pair of Cushe shoes from the GKids for me. Like them and very comfy.

Not a lot else going on with the yucky weather we've been having for the past week. Today is nice with 35F this morning and frost on the roofs. So , barbecueing some chicken thighs and breasts and a few sausages while at it. A bit of boudin for me and Luce at noonish.

Now Football and watch the cue. ;-)

24 December 2014

Hard to beleve I've not had a bike out on the road since Sunday a week ago, or, 10 days.  Weather is the biggest factor. And , just not into riding in the cold ( under 50 F  ) any more. But, Christmas is almost upon us so chilling till that's over and done with. Really about the only time I miss offshore where I didn't have to be home for all this family stuff. Just not my cup of tea for sure.
But, da wifey lives for this stuff so I reckon I can put up with it for a day.

Battery chargers on everything except the lawnmower just to maintain them in this cold weather.   Really nothing to do to them maintenance wise. And run generator for an hour a few days back. Guess I could get the pressure washer out and run it and put some stuff in the gas. Maybe this afternoon as it's suppose to get in the low 40's tonight. Plus , the worst part of winter is coming in the month of Jan and Fed and some of March.

Was thinking, it's been a year since my trip up to Missouri to get my Boat ( Nitro 700XL with 90 Merc on it. Really have enjoyed the boat. As fast as I want to go and good fuel mileage in the 3 to 4 thous rpm range.

Cooked up a frozen package BC asked for but not hungry at present since eating a turkey sausage sandwich at 09:00. But, need to fix da Luce something for sure.
And , listening to the top 100 hits of the 60's at present on YouTube. Some of them I really don't remember.

20 December 2014

Days past fast as you age I guess. As per motorcycle > a few more trips to Vermillion Parish to ride the roads less traveled. Getting to be a pretty good 40 mile run one way to get to the newer roads.  Might go back to working some more Acadia Parish. Need to find the files for there and put them back in the 276C  so I'll know where I've already been.

Since putting in the KLX needle, drilled pilot jet and 140 main jet, I've only had one fill up and that was showing about 48 or 9 mpg. A little drop from the 52 or 3 mpg ,. But, so much more responsive and smoother.

Have not done anything with the tree stump cept pour some oil on it. And, did work on one root with my axe. Phew! Gotta get a chain  saw , again.

Nothing else really happening to get excited about. Did look out my window this morning when it got light and saw a car in the ditch about a 1/2 block away. Looked like it had been there awhile so call Police to inform them about it. About 15 mins later a car shows up and they walk up to the car then both slowly back away with their hands in their guns. Finally woke the guy up on the passengers side and got him out side and scherch him and a bit later , cuffed him and put him in the patrol car. Another car shows up and the 1st one takes off with the guy in the car. Next was the wrecker truck showing up to get the car out of the ditch. Then went and talked to the cop there and found out the driver had left right away and this guy was passed out drunk. Checked found out he was a wanted man and violet fellow with a warrent out for him in Texas. Then Bill's Wrecker hauled the car away.
That was the excitement of the morning.

ULL bowl game watched . And ULL won over Neveda 16 to 3 so that was good.

11 December 2014

The tree is gone gone gone. Put the fence poles and clothes line pole back in place and cut the fence posts to fit. 2400 bucks for everything.
Today, the oil was changed in the Suzuki. Just oil and not the filter.  Then put the fence back up and that proved to be a bit of work. But, with a come a long and rope and channel lock pliers, it got done and secured in place with zip ties. Think I'll get some larger ones next time in town to reinforce what's there.
Then raked up 3 bags of leaves and shrubs to fill the trash can for this week and pick up tomorrow. After that, nothing but chill and watch movies on net flix.
Tomorrow, 09:30 Dr Dupry appointment here in town so staying in the chill mode. Maybe warm enuff for a good long ride on the KLR in Vermillion parish tomorrow. We hope.

09 December 2014

Wow! Gas down to 2.33 per gallon at Murphy Walmart today at fillup and averaged 16.2 mph for local use. Lovin that.
Tree peeps called and tomorrow they finish taking the tree out. Then I can start putting my fence back up. And clothes line back up. Ta daaaa.
Might warm up enuff today for me to get on the bike and roam abit. Really nothing else planned.
Went to Lake Arthur yesterday eveing to check if I won a football pool , Nada.  Didn't enter any more. A few beers and back  to Jtown.

07 December 2014

The big Oak Tree in the back yard is reduced to this at present .

And in the next days will be down to about 3 feet from the ground.

Other interesting things in the last few days are getting the jet kit in and installing it in the KLR. Consisted of a KLX needle, shims, main jets and instructions. Did get to test it for 25 miles yesterday and the engine feels much better. Will need more time to see if it resolved the littly hunting problem at the 4000 rpm range.

Invited to a friends houseboat in Lake Arthur yesterday for grilled snacks and beer and just visiting. Nice set up and nice snacks. She's really got it looking good and never quits adding to it.

Today, a visit to the Fire Station and back home. Grand Opening of a little Bar on the other side of town is happening today. So , may go by for a quick visit , but gonna be gone before the crowd starts for sure. And, be on the KLR for easy in and out parking. ;-)

04 December 2014

Interesting ride 3 days ago in Vermillion Parish between Kaplan and Guedan to the south . Just going down this road and that road as far as can. And, still so much to do. Have a couple roads in the last area I need to complete as I was running low on gas and couldn't at that time.

Ordered KLX kit for carb  to see if I can get rid of the minor miss at 4000 rpm. I can take it out with the choke so that means lean. Done replaced all the electrical stuff.
Wife off to New Orleans the last few days with the daughter. Daughter doing school stuff and wife visiting with son. Me and luce holding down the house.
Nothing really done in the last few days cept hook up and get two tv's working on the Charter converter box. Then call them to turn on the box in the sewing room with the HDMI connection to the flat screen tv. Had to install a little basket near the ceiling to hold everything and extend the input cable a touch.
Next event, if all says the same , is the big oak in the back yard being taken out.

27 November 2014

Thanksgiving Day. Just can't get myself into Holidays. May be cause there is none of my family left and really wasn't into it before that happen. My sis used to tease me about always finding a way to be offshore for holidays.
Yesterday, Luce and I went to Eunice to pick up two receivers for 2 of BC's tvs. So, that will make 4 of them here. I only watch one here in my room and once in a great while , the one in the bed room. But, she wanted one for her sewing room ( I go for that ) and one for the living room which is watched maybe 1% of the time in a year. ( I can't see that one )  ... Finished off the evening watching tv and interneting.

Today, a chilled affair till about 13:30 when I put on the cold weather clothing and went for a 157 mile ride on the Bandit. Here to Hathaway to Elton to Kinder to DeQuincy to Starks to Vinton to Sulphur to Jennings with the towns between.  Need to do something with that jacket zipper as it's getting harder and harder to connect.
Fed me and Luce and in the chill mode watching football with LSU over A&M at present.

24 November 2014

A great but, very windy day today. Did get out for a ride about on the KLR and the wind pushed it around lots. Then home to fix food for me and da Luce. She didn't eat much so stashed her left overs in the fridge.
I did veggies and turkey sausage for me and then chilled and watched football, did a load of clothing and roamed the internet.
After one game got to thinking about the nice windy weather out there and pull out Suzy the Bandit. Checked all things, aired the tires and took off for about a 90 mile run. Ending in LA for a glass of wine and coming back and stopping by Carolyns for a glass of wine and dance.
But, as usual, went to sleep in my chair , up and to bed ,  and up again at 02:15. Luce and I outside for a bit and she goes back to bed and I'm here just starting to get sleepy again at 0400.
Plans for later today is the vacuum cleaner in this room. ;-)

22 November 2014

As time flies by,. life goes on. Interesting things since last post.
Attempt to modify the taste of some fig wine proved worst than it was. Oh well.
Still hunting slight running problem on the KLR  with last thing being taking the carb out and apart to check everything. Pulling intake boot off , cleaning, a light bit of silicone and back together again. Still has the very light stumble in the 4000 rpm range. Next is a KLX needle, main jet and drilled pilot jet.
Went to NO to get son for long weekend Thursday a week ago. Took an old route that I had not been on in many many years. Down I55 or US 51 from I 12 to I 10. Nice run down memory lane. Finally got to Ty's place with help of GPS. We then proceed to US 90 and came back going through Houma.
Then supper at DI's Friday with Holly and Zack.
First frost of the year greeted last week also. Think it about killed the rest of the garden that I don't really have an interest in at present. But, did get wind blocker foam set up about the North and East side of the house.
Used the table saw that a friend gave me last year. Nice! Was gonna give it away but believe I'm changing my mind.
Experiencing a touch lower gas mileage on da Truck since putting on the new tires. Bumped the pressure up to 35 a tire. Had put them at 30 and after a couple weeks they were down to 28-27 due to cold weather.  LeBlanc's Tire had them at 40 when they installed the tires but they are only rated for 44 so didn't like that.
Other than that, and a few trips to LA for a beer or glass of wine, been in hibernation with the cold weather.

07 November 2014

Chilly walk this morning. But, I at least got a short mile walk in at a slow pace.
Put the tail box back on the Bandit as my Bro In Law had rewelded the alu tail rack. Rolled it out of the garage and battery too far down to start it. Sigh! Rolled it back in and put charger on it, mounted up on the KLR and went to LA to Drink a Bud at Delia's in Honor of Mr. AJ Guidry whom passed away yesterday afternoon. Always a great friend and a pleasure talking to him. Will be missed.

Other things happening , the KLR still is not fixed as per surge in the 4000 rpm area. Next is a carb rejet kit for about 40 bucks. Probably next month. LOL! Done spent my allotment for this month already for it.

Reason for Bandit battery being down is leaving the GPS hooked up for a few days before noticing and unplugging it. Need to hook up some kind of water proof switch on both bikes so I can just turn this circuit off when stopping for the night. I don't want it shutting down when stopping for breaks so a relay is out.

02 November 2014

Annual Fire Department Bar be Cue is the name of the game for this weekend. Went there at about 8:30 A to help in peeling onions, measuring ingredients for the beans. Noon time had us loading the briskets in the cooker at Cormier's Meat Market. Then back to the station for fried chicken meal. Home for a nap and rest of parts for KLR came in. Yea USPS. So, after a short nap, in the shop to put the KLR back together.
KLR work was new exhaust gaskets and one clamp. Had painted it with a Capilar paint that was suppose to be good for 900 F but when I finally fired up the bike. The paint smoked and peeled off and is on the lift now. ;-( . Installed the 07 ECU I got from a salvage yard on Ebay. Everything is checked and the bike runs but will have to get it on the road to see if we solved the problem.

Then , back to the FD at about 3ish to help out some more in getting supplies ready to bring to the school and then bringing them there. All that was left after that was getting the briskets in the hot box around 7:30 p or so. So back home for me and chillin'.

This morning was setting the clocks back, coffee, oatmeal and that's about all I've got done so far. Probably the school at about 6A to get ready to start cutting the brisket.  And then, we'll see.

31 October 2014

Well, the Truck got a new set of shoes today at 551 bucks worth. 2nd set since buying it in '03 so can't grip. And , filled it up at 2.71 a gal at Murphy Walmart. Gas mileage was a bit low at 14.8 but mostly intown or a trip to Lake Arthur. Gonna keep an eye on that as last fill up it was about 15.3. Course, could of just been that load of gas Murphy got.

Worked on the neighbors pressure washer twice yesterday. Once pull the carb off to clean the float bowl and main jet. Ran it for about 30 mins washing the driveway . Bought it to her house and started it and it died right away. Hmmmmmmm. Brought it back to the house and pulled the float bowl and main jet again. Jet blocked with a small piece of trash. So, drained and flushed the gas tank this time. Brought it back and let her crank it on the first pull. We very happy now. Let us hope it keeps on Keeping on.

Painted some more on the exhaust for the KLR and still waiting for the parts to put it back together again. Then , when lower it on the lift, I'll pull the gas tank and change out the ECU. And, hope that solves the long lingering problem with the slight miss.

Saints won the game last night that most said they were gonna lose big time. Ye of no faith, Sigh!

Figuring out just how I'm gonna mount the Go Pro Camera on my Helment,Probably start with it mounted on top and run it off the romote. Jury still out on that.

28 October 2014

The Nitro and I went on the Bayou this morning till about 1:30P. A little scum on the water but not the kind that stains the boat. So, went up bayou , stopping at my marked possible spots and end up with a small 10 inch bass at the first stop. Then as it started clouding up and a sprinkle here and there, turn around and went south of the park, stopping at a few places there which produced 2 crappie ( small ) and a missed gaspagoo. Lost my next to last beetle spin so seeing it was 1P, headed back to the landing, loaded up, came home and put the boat up and truck up and ate. Now, chill time.
Finally made the decision to lose the Sony A57 camera combo. Traded for a new Go Pro 3+ and a 100 bucks. Now, to learn a new camera. Had used a GoPro 2 before so kinda sorta familiar with the concept, just does things a little different. Kinda like my other 3 cameras, all different in the way they do things.

Good news is an email telling me the ECU for the KLR is shipped. Now just hope that's the problem I've been having for the last 15,000 miles. LOL! The Fat Lady has not sung yet.

GDaughter was in when I got in last night. Sucking up to Grandmaw is the name of the game there. And Grandmaw just loves it.

26 October 2014

Last week, my wife brought me a box that has been stored in a closest since we moved here in '69. Pictures I though long lost in the box. So will be going though them and posting with a caption on some at to where and when.

The Grinder ,  as we come to know it. Learned all close order drill on this field at MCRD San Diego, CA. To the upper right at groups of 40 Marines per Platoon. To the far right is the Obstetrical Courses and Quansen huts we spent 3 months in during Boot Camp. After Boot, we went to Camp Pendleton for a month of Infatry Training , a 20 day boot leave to come home for a bit. Which was a long bus ride for me. Then back to MCRD for Sea School for a month, You then stay in the Sea Pool to await assignment to a Marine Detachment aboard a ship. Doing Honor Guards and Military Burials in the area.

The USS Los Angeles  CA 135 was a heavy cruiser built in the 40's and final decommission in 1963. I served with the Marine Detachment for it's final cruise.

17 October 2014

A fun fill day with playing about with the KLR most of the morning. Took starter switch apart and cleaned and back together. Took throttle all apart and cleaned and lubed. Took small washer shim off the slide needle and set the fuel mixture at 1. 5 turns. Pulled apart, cleaned and lube the connections under the head light. Check ohmage on the pickup coil which was middle spec.
Never got back up on the roof today. Instead , the bandit and I took off on an other 90 mile ride. A few new and interesting roads. Darn bandit rides rough after all the time on the KLR.

16 October 2014

Wash wash wash is the name of the game mainly. Getting the carport and house washed down so I can repaint the roof over the carport.
But, today, took a break from that to let my back get back right.  Ha ha ha ha Ageing is hell.  So, today was take the gas tank and front fairing off the KLR to look for electrical problems. Check items I shorted out as the clutch and side stand switches. Also redid the neutral switch. All good. Did find the clutch plug in where I had shorted it out not plugged in all the way.  Did find the ignition coil to be low on ohms reading so got another coming from Ebay.
Tomorrow morning early, will check a few more things  and lube the throttle cables. May take the .032" washer off the slide needle. Though it might be a cause of studdering in the motor but was not.
So, the Bandit got the nod today for an 80 mile or so romp about the area. Really didn't decide where I was going till after I filled up on 26 here in Jtown.  So , North on 26 to 104 to Mamou and 95 and 29 to Eunice and 91, 98 and 97 back to town. No shutdowns, just chasing the front wheel.
But, tomorrow, back on the roof.
Also built a gas container I can hang above the bike and run it without the gas tank on.

11 October 2014

Interesting things were the last trip to the Laccassine Reserve which closes to fishing the 15th. Me and Luce had fun even not catch any fish.  Stopped at Pete's Camp for potty break for me and the dog and let her smell around. ;-) Pulled into a shade spot at the duck pond  and did an MRE for lunch.

Next thing was checking more into the electrics on the KLR so pulled the tank off again and pulled every connection apart, cleaned and lubed them. Redid the ground there and found a corroded and froze wire plug so cut it off and installed new. Charging seems to be more stable but still getting a little surge above 4000 so gonna look at some other things. Did get a new sparking plug to put in also.

Rode with the fire truck today for the 5 k walk / run for the Pulmonary Hypertension  deal. Peeps were many, near 2000 was said. And football watching the rest of the day. Been a good week.

05 October 2014

Wow! 57 F this morning as the cold air started filtering down yesterday. Been a good few weeks lately. With doing more stuff with the KLR in electrical work and carb work.
Wife back from 2 week  vacation trip with Sis and Bro on Law to points West. The dog and I enjoyed the quiet stay about home.
Trying to ride one of the bikes near everyday to somewhere's local. Even just going out and about to see how harvest is coming.

21 September 2014

Interesting things since last post.
Having to run the klr about 15 miles with a flat rear at 30 mph. Never broke the bead. The undersize tube I put in had split. So, even though the tire still looked good, changed it out to to how hot it got. Along with a new and proper size tube.
Fishing the Calcasieu River for a big bass deal and weighted nothing in. But fun learning that part of the river near Moss Bluff. Luce miss judging a jump to the dock and me having to get her out of the water by grabbing her collar. Her expression was priceless.
Bayou Nezpique and Lacassine being so dirty that I washed my boat after being there.
Moving a garden plot and getting rid of 3 tire onion patches.
And , final is BC going on a trip with her sis and bro in law to points west. Me and da Luce in control of the house. ;-)

28 August 2014

A few things to mention for the past week or so. Wife's birthday today so can't forget that. She be 67 yrs. Forgot I married a Teenager. LOL!
More roof pressure washed on the garage. Lower back lets me know I can't do too much every day. A few tanks of gas and then a day off from it. Ditto with moving garden plots.
A great showing this last weekend of the Caravan of Vettes at Oustalet Chevy. All headed to KY to the Vette Museum. Drool Drool  Sigh!
Need to get back into  my 2 mile walks every morning. Been slacking off of late. Think too much beer the afternoon before. Need to lose that habit also. ;-)
Finally closed the Catholic Credit Union Account and put it in the Capitol One bank. So, all funds in one place more or less.
Not sure what the day is gonna bring yet. ;-)

22 August 2014

Things in life going on just fine. Had to put a new tire on the KLR after the undersized tube I took a chance on split. Had to ride on a flat for about 15 or so miles and the tire never broke from the rim. So, while waiting on new tire and tube, decided to do the valves that has not been done since about the 10K miles mark where I had to replace 2 shims then. Now, all 4 needed to be replaced. Also advanced the ex cam one tooth as per Eagle Mike mod. Seems to have more grunt in the 2 to 5 thousand range. About 170 miles since the mods and all is good. Was starting to run a bit hot but gave the radiator a good washing and that seems to have taken care of that.

Fishing a few times.  2 exploratory trips on the Calcasieu River to learn it and once for a big fish tournament. Didn't catch any big fish but fun. Back down to the usual place a few days ago to catch some shopics. Streeters Canals was the place.

Today, branches cut and some weed eating done.

25 July 2014

Decided to mow the neighbors yard with the Dixon. Still muddy in the ditch so had a good time cleaning up after the fact. I guess next is the roof on my garage, It's looking pretty trashy up there I was noticing.

24 July 2014

Wow! most of the month has passed without an entry. Hmmmmmm Things that happen. Started on fig wine, reconned a different boat launching place near Moss Bluff for the up coming Big Bass day. Which, I think I have entered last night for 55 bucks.
Finally bit the bullet and bought a gas engine pressure washer and spent about an hour learning it while reading the manual. Was able to fit a 20 foot section of hose in it that I had on the old one. And , being a Craftman with a Honda engine, I can get parts for it though Sears.

One fishing trip last week that had my boat and trailer so dirty from scum on the Bayou that it took near 45 mins to clean boat and trailer.
Just had to do the Red Rose Last Supper as Red is closing it down , again , this Saturday.
There, that catches up with things. LOL!

07 July 2014

Nothing spectacular this last week. But, did have a right rear brake capillar come loose via losing a bolt getting into Rayne that cause a bit of excitement. Able to get another bolt and get back on the road to home for 22 dollars. Therefore, voiding a trip to Marice to bring a tire that I auctioned off for Drew Fontenot.

One fishing trip to the North on Bayou Nezpique with Luce brought no bites and a dirty hull. Which I washed when getting back home.

A couple runs into Vermillion Parish discovering what down some roads. And , messing up a track file and losing most of what I had traveled that day on said file. Oh well.

Fig tree started producing , a few more cukes and tomatoes in the garden scene. And the start of a couple small watermellons . Also looking like a few starts on the cantaloupes that were planted late from seeds.

Suzie has not been out in a week at least so need to do that soon.  No other plans at present as wine transfer is still a week down the line. Guess could start a batch of something else. Like Watermelon wine. Hmmmm.

01 July 2014

up at 2ish and back to bed at 4ish to rise again at 6:30ish. Slow morning with filling up the boat to 18 gallons worth. Then a trip to the bayou and current running faster than I wanted to be out in today. So, cut neighbors yard and chilled till deciding to bring tire to Southside Honda I auctioned off for Drew last Saturday. But, troubles coming into Rayne with the rear end making much noise. Made to it to the Bridgestone tire shop to have a good look and it turned out to be the right rear brake caliper missing a bolt. Got a replacement to do the job till can get the right bolt with that costing 22 bucks for bolt/washer and labor. Darn good deal. So back to the house, put boat in it's place so could park truck in it's place as was planning on hitting the bayou at daylight. Now, need to check other cap bolts and get correct type bolt for the repair today. Now, a glass of wine after just getting a haircut.

Uhhhh! Hooked up the old utility trailer and guess what. Da lights not working to pretty good.  Hmmmmmm. gotta do something about that sha. But, later. Worked up a good sweat the little I mess with it.
Had a great day yesterday with the ride for Drew. Logged in about 225 miles on Suzie de Bandit. Jerry and Cindy ended up with the Kenda 270 rear I donated for auction. So, now I need to get it to Southside and to Art so they can pick it up.
Finished up the day with a visit to Tina's houseboat and helped install her ceiling fan and BSed a bit before moving on to the Rose for a few glasses of wine, then home and not long after that , to bed.
Don't know why I did not take in pics, guess just out of the habit.
