29 April 2016

Interesting how life happens! Took off on the KLR to see how much of LA 97 was complete on the resurfacing project. Found out and rather than waiting in line for a go ahead in a single lane, U turn to a side road heading the same way and going here and there ended up in Iota. Been having visiting a dear cousin that helped in raising me many winters ago, so to her home I went. Very enjoyable hour spent and invited to a supper the next day as brother and sis with fam was coming and I was going to be the surprise.
So, spent yesterday in anticipation of the evening. Walk about with Da Luce, Check Air press in Suzy's rear tire > good. And not anything constructive as I recall. So, wife and I off to Annie's in Iota via Egan and a great evening with family, sitting around the table , talking about this and that.
Then home to watch a movie on Netfilx and that was it for the day.
Today? Winds of Fate day. ;-)

27 April 2016

As time goes by, so does life.
Mowed a bit of grass in the wet section of the yard next door. Then came the rains, again. So, stopped that project.
Got the boat out for a test run and a little fishing with the bale spinning reel. I'm not getting along with that at all. So much simpler for the closed face. So, cleaned up one of my Diawa 33s for the next trip out.
Carpenters showed up and leveled the kitchen to the wife's satisfaction. That's good! ;-)
Well well, walked out to do some tire checking and maintenance and Suzy had next to zero air in the rear tire. Hmmmmmmm. Found a very large staple that had been well hammered into the tire. So, tire repair time with a plug and glue. Then a road test to check it out. All is good so far and it's a pretty new tire but these radial tires with steel in them don't like plugs at times so we'll be watching closely.
Interesting happening when walking in the shop this morning, Wine cork on the floor. Hmmmmmm. Culprit was a 350ml bottle of Satsuma wine that had blown it's cork. Hmmmmm. Stood the other 2 back up fastly plus the 3 grapefruit bottles. Oh well, Good reason to leave them standing for about 6 months I guess.
Added about 2/3rds cup of sugar to the Banana wine as the yeast is not working no more I hope. Done a little taste test and it's different for sure. Now, to let that sit a few more weeks before bottling.
Fun visit with old friends yesterday. Sheena for about 1/2 hour or so, catching up on old times. Down with his back for the last two years and has not ridden his bike since but keeps it up. like that. Then, the road led me to Scott and First Turn and Bill Young. Bill and I talking about old times with his mechanic. The world famous Jawa Burn. Bikes , what's selling , what's not.
Did yesterday on Suzy so need to check the rear for pressure this morning. Then let the winds of fate determine the rest of the day.

20 April 2016

Shame on the rain sneaking up while I was napping and wetting everything. Hmmmmm.  But, did get a mile walk in with Luce this morning.
Worst happening today was breaking the coffee pot when I finger got hung up and it ended up destroying itself on the Kitchen floor in many pieces. Oh well, to the trash. And later, to Walmart for a replacement bowel for it. And, of course wanted some more visible fishing line in the 12lb range so got a blue and green. And since they had some baits on sale I got a bag of crawfish plastic in a dark color. And, of course some treat doggy biscuits for Da Luce.

Also got my part in for da Mercury outboard and installed it. 23 bucks but hoping to stop oiling problem when motor is shut off.  At least the motor sounded better when I rolled it out into the driveway and fired it up. Lot less smoking.

Also ask Bobbie to order some of those special tiewraps Mercury uses on their fuel lines.

Got home from Walmart to see Med Rescue at neighbors so walked over there to see what's with my old neighbor.  Knew all the Fire Department peeps and kinda relaxed Charley a bit. When You have a bunch of Medical peeps around you and don't know anyone it's kinda scarey for them.  Acadian showed a few mins later and hooked him to EKG and then to the hospital to make sure. It seemed like a mild cardiac.

Yesterday was not doing a lot cept mowing the grass in the front and side yard here. Still water in the ditches so the walk behind power mower got the call. And, I , the exersize ;-)
Then a ride about to Loggerheads for a beer, then back to Darrells for a few more, then to Bubba's in town for a couple then home. And not much longer, to bed.

18 April 2016

Not a lot going on today ( Saturday ). Barbecue pork steak from the little church did the trick for noon and I ate way too much and felt very un comfortable for several hours. Oh well, someday , I'll learn that you can't spend several days doing very small meals then a big one.

Boat motor part suppose to be in Monday (  today ). Be neat to get that project wrapped up.  Part had to come from Mercury. They just don't have check valves failing that often seems.

Pretty windy today ( Sunday ) in South Louisiana so decided to take Bandit out to check out a few boat launches about 30-35 miles to the West of me. Nice 118 mile ride in about 3.5 hour time. The rice fields are getting greener and fuller by the day.

And a visit to a boat launch I had not been to in about 25 yrs. You can put in here and run all the way to the Gulf of Mexico if desire.

And, in the area, a neat little find. Probably not repaired since Rita visited us years back.

So, now, we'll see what the winds of fate blow our way today ;-)

14 April 2016

Well, a few things happened since the last post. Drank too much beer at a new place I went to. Non smoking bar in town. Two days later, recovered from that crap!
Next snafu was jogging a little, about 100 yards, a few days ago just to see if could.  Oh Yi Yiiiii  the next morning. Hips and right knee that was already not very happy with me. Sill feel the knee a bit and it requires being cook with it still.
Positive was getting the Step Easy set up for my boat trailer and installing it. Gonna make life much easier in dealing with boat things.

Still waiting on check valve for oiling system on my outboard engine to arrive . May drive by the boat store to check on it today. Course, not in a big hurry as bayou and river not good for travel yet after the hard rains we had last two days. Lots to drain yet.

Did order a car charger for my old Garmin Nuvi 1300 that I had bought in 2010 when doing work for Census. Keep it in the truck as I like to keep the other two GPSs on the bikes.

Yesterday, experiment in making Bar Be Cue sauce. Crazy mix of stuff and it came out pretty good for a 1 time. Made a full quart and a little basing oil left over.

Today is still be decided by the winds of fate. ;)

08 April 2016

Good day yesterday!  Following Bassmasters Elite Series on Bassmaster.com, Getting paid for cutting the grass next door via Western Union. Finished alineing stuff on the KLR , installing the factory windshield ( weather is warming up ) and going for a ride about the country side to check things out.
Absolutely love the new handlebar set up. Puts my hands more forward and makes standing on the pegs more comfortable.
Could not find the sprayer so bought a small one and weed killer at Walmart. Plus while there, a pack of plastic blue/black worms for my fishing habit.
A stop in the country for a beer, then to another pub to watch them do a Washers Game for a bit. Home sweet home after that. Apple/peanut butter for supper, Netflix, and , life is good.

Today, Elite tournement live view, motogp practice in Texas and Supercross tonight ( I think ). A greeat viewing day for sure.

07 April 2016

Between Sunday and Monday, I did two trips on the Bandit. Both being just a bit over 170 miles of roaming and in different directions.  Did see a few roads I had not been on , but, not many. The trip North to Sugartown and area was more new stuff than the 2nd trip to the islands.  Forked Island, Pecan Island and the other named Island towns and coming back via Little Chenere Ridge.
Played with a different setting on the G16 camera in running at in the T or speed mode at 125 , one down on ex compensation and let the camera do the rest of the settings. Ended up taking 66 pics in the two days and the mode I take them in is RAW so need a computer with the right programs to process them. Called developing in the film days. First of all, didn't have any really sharp pics so the 125 sec is way slow, Next, a spot of ??? on the lens for the 2nd day. I can't believe I have not learn my lesson on cleaning the lens every time I take off. But, was able to remove the spot from the photos I cared about, crop and adjust also in the picture of processing. Ended up keeping 15 of the 66. Which I'll go though and say a bit about each one in this posting.

I think this road is one headed towards Bundic's Lake. Not sure. Love these back roads and no traffic or very light traffic.

Then coming into a wooded section towards Sugartown and one of the homes and the stuff collected in the yard. Always loves seeing what's in peoples yards. If they are out and about and happen to glance  my way, a friendly wave from me will most of the time get on in return. A silent greeting in passing.
Love playing with different camera positions while riding about and no traffic. Keeps me thinking. Loved the layout of the upcoming rises. Course, most of the time it shows one of Bandit's scars from life on the roads less traveled.

Things you come across for sale on the sides of the road. Always interesting to look at. Some, I do a u-turn on to check them out for future reference for friends that may be interested. Take a pic or two and get the co-ordinates for location.

Farmers always at work. Either getting ready for Spring planting or doing crawfish. They keep feeding us.
The draw bridge over the Old Intracoastal Canal as I head South.

Love what this Parish has done to make these little fishing docks headed South on LA 82. Probably about 1/2 a dozen in about 15 to 20 miles, Never did do a measurement as to distance between them.

And finally, homes in this area that was hit hard twice about 10 or so years ago by two hurricanes which pretty much wiped all out along the Louisiana and East Texas coasts.

Other things are, did do a few hours out on the Mermentau River and fishing a bit. One 13" bass caught and miss two more getting hung up on branches and stuff. But, that's where the fish life. Plus, I don't keep any anyway. Attempting to learn to use a spinning reel so that's a new thing and still much to learn and time practicing.
I did finally break down and order an easystep set up for my boat trailer. Being as I launch and load alone all the time, it'll make life easier when loading especially. I'll do a few pics when I get it installed.

Last item on this writing is about the KLR.  I lowered it to get my old feet back planted on the ground. Plus changed the handlebars to a different bend plus riser set up. Took it out about the city yesterday and like the changes so I'll finish snugging things down today and fixint a good GPS mount or ordering a proper on to fit the handlebars. I have two of them on Bandit but those need to stay on Bandit.
Till the next. ;-)

03 April 2016

Nice walk with Luce in the graveyard this morning, then coffee at the Fire Station and of course a bit of rapping with the peeps there on duty or visiting.
Then check to see what time Moto3 GP races start and off to the shop to work on getting the KLR back together. Forks done  and just need the clamps torqued . New handlebars in place with all the controls and waiting on glue to dry on the left one.
Wine checked on and doing a set of bubbles ever 6 to 7 seconds at present.
Monopoly played again 3 computer peeps and 1st to go out. Sigh! When you roll last and don't get the dice rolls to get property or rent , your doomed. I think the computer cheats also.
Gueydan is having a french band from 5 to 8 this evening at the Circletop so may end up down there to check it out. We'll see what the winds of fate do for us. ;-)

02 April 2016

Good day for taking pics of cars. A few from the 2016 LA Car Show.

Then back home for a good nap and then rack the Banana wine from the fermenter to the bubble bottle. Checked Gravity and it was 1.020 so a ways to go yet to .880. ;-)

As per the days before today, not a lot,  Have not finished up putting the KLR back on the road yet. Not lots to do , just have not been in the Do It Mode the last 3 days.  Plus, have not had Bandit out either, but today would of been a nice day for it.

Life coninues ;-)
